The Homesteading Hippy Homestead Kitchen Tour

Hi it’s Lindsey from right here on Cultivate Nourishing! Today we are joined by Heather from The Homesteading Hippy! Heather lives with her family of  5, along with chickens, ducks, rabbits, 1 dog and 4 cats who think they own the place.  Her animals get over 1/3 of her yard, and the garden takes up another 1/2 which leaves her enough room for a single chair to sit on outside.  Life on 1/5 an acre in a small Northern Indiana town is slow paced, but that’s the way they like it!  Join us on a tour of her kitchen.

This year is really making up for last year as far as most veggies go, especially zucchini! We barely had any zucchini last year but more fruit than we could imagine! This year we have had no fruit but LOADS of veggies! Put it up while you can! Haha!

Enjoy your gardens, farmers, and markets! They are really pumping out produce this year! Don’t forget to check out Eating Inside the Box and link up any recipes to any categories!

Homestead Cleaning

As a homesteader I get myself into a lot of projects! Why just this morning I’ve already make 2 batches of soup from homemade bone broth, got a load of tallow in the crockpot and the electric roaster, picked beans, zucchini, and cucumbers, got garlic drying on the front porch all while taking care of two kids in diapers doing a load of cloth diapers, doing dishes, cleaning counters, and making breakfast! Whew! Are you tired yet?! My day is just beginning because now I need to make lunch, put up all the veggies, strain off my tallow into jars, make some of my tallow into essential oil scented candles, AND clean up all the mess before dinnertime! O yeah, while I also have my two babies! Did I leave anything out? I’m sure, as we all know, there will be plenty more that pops up today! So what keeps me going? Where does my energy, motivation, perseverance come from? What tricks do I employ that make it all possible? Honestly, most of it is self-will! I don’t want to eat or have my family eat what we don’t grow and put up! I want to approve my food and the things we bring into our house!
